Overview

The Direct Support Professional provides hands-on care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping each person achieve greater independence, dignity, and quality of life at home and in the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily living and personal care tasks as outlined in each client’s Individual Support Plan (ISP) or Behavior Support Plan (BSP).

  • Implement teaching strategies and behavior supports to promote skill development and reduce challenging behaviors.

  • Maintain safety and active supervision—remain alert, engaged, and supportive throughout each shift.

  • Encourage independence, communication, recreation, and community inclusion.

  • Complete daily documentation, timesheets, and communication logs accurately and on time.

  • Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the home or facility.

  • Provide transportation for clients as needed per BSP/ISP goals.

  • Perform physical tasks as required (lift/push up to 75 lbs, stand for extended periods).

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance.

  • Clear BCI/FBI background check (no disqualifying offenses).

  • Completion of CPR/First Aid and other required trainings

  • Compassionate, reliable, and committed to supporting individuals with disabilities.
